Pooch paw-traits: Ever-growing collection of photographs which reveal the different characteristics of New York's dogs

A photographer has set out to capture the different characteristics of New York's dogs by snapping a different pooch every day.
The project was only supposed to last a year but Sally Davies' 'New York Daily Dog Project' is still growing thanks to the number of canines in the city.
Ms Davies, who is originally from Canada, says the collection reveals much about the dogs' social lives and how each pet has their own traits.

'I love all of the dogs I see but I definitely gravitate towards the more human looking ones or the totally nutty looking faces - and of course the ones that don't bite', she said.

'Being a street photographer by trade I'm always out there shooting anyway and being a big animallover it was just a no-brainer to start this project.
'Originally it was a year gig and I photographed one dog out on the street every day Monday toFriday. I still shoot them now but not as scheduled as during that project

'I discovered urban dogs tend to be more socialised than rural dogs. City dogs have to be walkedseveral times a day and so a sort of social life begins.
'There a differences in them depending on what part of town they are from but not always in the way you would expect.
'Sometimes the biggest, scariest pitbull in a dodgy neighbourhood ends up being the friendliest dog I will photograph all week and the cutest in a posh area will be the nastiest.'
