A fitting caption posted from Kilkenny Castle on what would have been Eleanor Butler's funeral, 1829. 
On this day June 17th 1829, the funeral of Lady Eleanor Charlotte Butler, the youngest daughter of Walter Butler, 16th Earl of Ormonde and his wife Eleanor Morres, took place in Llangollen Wales.
For the last 50 years of her life Lady Eleanor was the faithful and affectionate companion of Miss Ponsonby. The ladies shared their lives together at their beautiful retreat Plas Newydd, Llangollen.
The Kilkenny moderator dating 20th June 1829 reported on Eleanor’s funeral:
“It is impossible almost to describe the feeling of the inhabitants of Llangollen upon this melancholy occasion; all the shops were closed, business at a stand and scarcely a dry eye to be seen. All who could afford were attired in deep mourning and the poorer classes (to whom she was a most liberal benefactress) bewailed the loss of her whose remains were in a few hours to be conveyed to that “bourne-from whence no traveller returns” “
