Maison de Jeanne

This is the "maison de Jeanne", possibly the oldest house in France. It was built in the 1200s and still stands proudly (although it was renovated).
In this picture, it still retains its colombage half-timbered walls with cobblestones, its construction in cantilever and exposed beams.
If you are wondering why the upper floors are much bigger than the ground floor, well, during that century people were only required to pay tax on the ground floor square-footage and not the upper floors. Therefore, the smaller the ground floor the cheaper it is on tax.
