The Buddicoms of Penbedw
I am certain that most of you here at CHS are well versed on the Buddicom family, once of the nearby Penbedw estate at Nannerch, so excuse the repetition. As you know they were a wealthy family owning much of the land on the Clwydian hills and a 3,000 acre estate in Nantglyn near Denbigh (including the land that lies beneath the Brenig reservoir) as well as properties in France, Ireland and England.
It was surprising to discover their holdings appear to extend to mineral rights in Mold, including some close to Bailey Hill. This was the result of subscribing to the North East Wales Archive 'Adopt A Box' conservation initiative last year. On requesting material relating to Mold, a particular interest being Bailey Hill, it resulted in the conservation of the contents of the box shown.
Further reading describes a family member living at the time the documents were drawn up. William Barber Buddicom (1816-1887) was a respected engineer far from his home at Penbedw as the obituary and résumé of his life from 'Grace's Guide to British Industrial History' reveals here.
