A Witch Bottle Spell for Protection
This is a spell for personal protection.
You will need:
A black candle and candle holder
Dragon's Blood incense, finely ground
A charcoal disk for burning the incense
Safety matches
Your censer or cauldron to hold the burning charcoal (put some sand in the bottom - the charcoal gets hot; you can put a paten or trivet under the censer or cauldron to protect the surface of your table or altar)
A small glass bottle with a cork stopper
Three rusty nails
Three straight pins
A lock of hair or three fingernail clippings from the one (or those) you wish to protect
Three small pieces of broken glass or broken mirror
An old razor blade (careful!)
A small obsidian stone
A small clear crystal such as clear quartz
A small amount of wine, vinegar or water
Instructions:
(1) Place the black candle in the holder, light the candle, and say, "Bless me for protection in all things, creature of Fire."
(2) Light the charcoal (hold it using tongs or place it in the censer or cauldron before lighting - the type of charcoal used for burning incense, unlike that used for barbecues, gets very hot, very quickly) using the candle's flame and say, "Bless me for protection in all things creature of Earth."
(3) Sprinkle some of the incense on the charcoal - reserve some for later in the spell. Take in some of the fragrance of the incense and meditate for a moment on your goals for protection.
(4) Take the nails, pins, hair or nail clippings, glass or mirror pieces, razor blade, obsidian and crystal, and pass them one by one through the smoke of the incense. Say, "Bless me for protection in all things creature of Air."
(5) After you pass each item through the smoke of the incense, place it into the bottle. Visualize your magical intent of protection surrounding the one or ones for whom you are working this spell.
(6) Take the wine, vinegar or water (old time witches would use urine - use that instead, if it so pleases you) and say, "Bless me for protection in all things creature of Water." Pour the liquid into the bottle.
(7) Add three pinches of the Dragon's Blood incense - which you'd set aside in Step 3 - into the bottle. Say, "Protect me!" - or "Protect _____!" (insert name or names of the one or those in need of protection) as you drop each pinch into the bottle. Swirl the contents of the bottle together as you visualize safety and protection for the one or ones you desire to protect.
(8) Tilt the burning candle and drip some of the melted wax of the candle into the bottle. Do this three times saying, "Protect me!" (or "Protect _____!" as in Step 7) as you drip more melted wax into the bottle.
(10) Raise the bottle to your mouth, and allow your breath to enter the bottle. Speak the following invocation aloud with focused intention:
Goddess Hecate protect me from evil!
Goddess Artemis protect me from violence!
Goddess Hera protect my property!
Wyrd Sisters of the Fates protect my life!
In this invocation, you can substitute a person's name for "me." Change it up to suit your needs, perhaps "those I love," "my lovely family" or "my dear children."
(11) An old time witch would now spit into the bottle - do s if it pleases you to so add more of your personal magical essence in addition to your breath. Say, "This is my prayer. This is my wish. As I will, so mote it be!"
(12) Place the cork stopper into the bottle and drip some wax onto it, sealing the bottle. While it's not necessary, if you have an old-time seal (like once was used for making impressions in wax on letters), press that briefly into the wax as it cools. You also might use your athame or some other sharp object to draw a protective rune, your initials or something else that pleases you into the cooled wax.
(13) Allow the candle to burn out. As it does, place the bottle away, perhaps on the high shelf of a closet, in your attic or some place where it's unlikely to be disturbed or in your way.
