I wanted this song to be the theme tune for my cooking show but the BBC wouldn't let me have it. Probably best not anyway - I'm sure critics like Jan Moir would have used it as yet another example of my appalling wanton ways, like taking meringues out of an expensive oven that I didn't own.

It's not hugely known, this version, but it should be. I heard it years ago at a house party in New York on a scratchy record player. A great dancing song as well as a cooking one, it feels quite menacing. Tina can belt it like no one else.

I listen to Tramp if I have a LOT of cooking to do. Its exuberance will get you through even the most mundane tasks, like endless onion peeling and chopping. Otis is always a tonic though really, isn't he?

I'm a massive hip hop fan, and the sleepy, wry humour of this song really does it for me. The lyrics are hysterical. I lived in New York as a teenager and so much of my musical leanings are shaped by that early-Nineties hip hop. I never really grew out of it.
