LIVING: 10 of the UK’s Best Dog Friendly Beaches
StyleTails brings you 10 of the UK’s best dog friendly beaches to enjoy a dog day of sun, sand and surf with your four-legged friend.
There’s nothing like a bit of sand between your paws, and you don’t have to head abroad with your hound to be beside the seaside. From the sun drenched Cornish coast to the dramatically rugged shores of Scotland, there’s plenty of beautiful beaches for a playful pup (and person) to soak it all up.
1. Rhossili Bay, Gower, Wales
It’s not hard to see why this breathtaking expanse of Welsh coastline was voted the best beach in Britain and third best in Europe. Rhossili Bay, the three mile stretch of sandy beach at the end of the Gower Peninsula is the ultimate dog-friendly delight – perfect for a good long run and an amazing place to take in the spectacular views.
2. Gairloch Beach, Scottish Highlands
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the North East Scottish coastline is the breathtaking Gairloch Beach. Surrounded by rugged mountains, the sheltered and secluded bay is the perfect place to enjoy with your faithful friend. Take in spectacular views of the islands, as well as the stunning Scottish sunsets from the West.
3. Goring Beach – Worthing, West Sussex
Situated about half an hour west of Brighton and only a short trip from London, Goring Beach in Worthing on the South coast is the perfect place to spend a day soaking up some rays with your pooch.
4. Perranporth Beach & Perran Sands, Cornwall
Surrounded by steep Cornish cliffs, these two stretches of stunning beach on the North Cornwall coast provide miles of golden sand for plenty of canine adventures. After a hard day’s play, you and your hound can enjoy a well deserved drink at the The Watering Hole, the UK’s only bar on the beach.
*Dogs must be on a lead from 9am-5pm in July and August at both beaches.
5. Littlestone Beach, New Romney, Kent
Head to the beautiful Kent coastline in South East England for a day of fun and frolics at Littlestone Beach. For thirsty hounds and humans, visit one of the many dog friendly pubs in New Romney for a spot of lunch or to wet your whistle.
6. Hengistbury West Beach, Bournemouth
Pack a picnic and enjoy a day at this pretty stretch of Dorset coastline. Dogs are allowed all year round with plenty of space for a run.
7. Balmedie Beach, Aberdeen
Spend the day exploring five miles of stunning sand dunes at beautiful Balmedie beach off the coast of Aberdeen. Take in the sweeping views and sounds of the birds over-head, or for some Summer action, you can hire a beach barbecue from April to September.
8. Burnham Beach, Burnham on sea
Dogs can dart about all year round on this glorious six mile stretch of beach along the Somerset coastline. Keep your eyes peeled for the wreckage of Norwegian vessel, the SS Norman which was shipwrecked after a howling gale up the Bristol channel in 1897. The good news is that the crew, including their dogs were all rescued!
9. Exmouth Beach, Devon
Exmouth Beach on the beautiful Dorset coast is the perfect spot for a dog day out. Enjoy a run along the stunning sandy beach or have a spot of lunch in the pretty town.

10. Snettisham Beach, Kings Lynn, Norfolk
Located on Norfolk’s ‘sunset coastline’, Snettisham Beach is is the only beach in Norfolk that faces west, so you’re guaranteed an amazing view as the sun goes down. With no restrictions at any time of year, dogs can run about to their heart’s content at this lovely location.
