Best of friends... the deaf and blind dogs who are each other's eyes and ears

Eve and Dillon have become best friends
A deaf dog and bind dog have formed an inseparable bond - acting as each other's eyes and ears wherever they go.

The caring canines were abandoned as puppies but became best friends soon after they were both rescued by a dog shelter.

Completely blind Dillon, a two-year-old Border Collie cross, was dropped off at a dog boarding kennel and never picked up again.

And Eve, a deaf Catahoula Leopard Dog mix - who also has one eye missing - was found by a postman when she was just nine-weeks-old and almost frozen in a snow drift on Christmas Eve.

The pair haven't let their disability hold them back

Staff at Marley's Mutts in Bear Valley in California, USA, where the adorable pair ended up, were worried their disabilities would prevent them from socialising but were left stunned when they became pals.

Executive Director Zach Skow said: "We really thought their disabilities would separate them - but from the beginning they just clicked.

"Their abilities to help each other rather than hamper themselves seemed to bring them together and get the best out of them, it is amazing to see just how they work.

"They are perfect for one another in the way they watch out for one another. Each has never been more at ease than when they are together."

Carers hoped the pair would be adopted together but revealed they were aware how difficult it would be to find someone willing to take two large, disabled dogs into their family.

Fortunately local Shelley Scudder spotted posts about Eve on Marley's Mutts Facebook page and became determined to go and visit her.

But when she arrived to meet Eve, she quickly discovered she came in a pair, but with four dogs, a fiance, an 11-year-old and a new home, Shelley was unsure if she could handle two more dogs.

However after witnessing the special relationship between the two dogs she decided she couldn't say no.

Zach added: "The home they are in is quite honestly perfect, and the two even have an 11-year-old human that they have added to their gang.
