Would you be brave enough to visit these places alone at night?
Whether you believe in the paranormal or not, some stories are enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Here are the stories of some of the ghosts said to haunt castles, country homes and old pubs around Wales.
1. Sker House, Porthcawl
A 12th century mansion known as one of the most haunted places in Wales.
The 800-year-old mansion was immortalised in the Victorian novel The Maid of Sker, which was based on the tale of Elizabeth Williams, who "died of a broken heart" after being locked in a room in the house by her father to prevent her from marrying her lover.
The house is known for its vivid and violent past. This included 16th century carnage against Catholics, upon whose faith the house was founded.
Witnesses have reportedly heard "high pitched screeching noises, screams and wailing cries", seen dark shadows and figures, more so in the room where Elizabeth is thought to have been locked away.
They have told of feeling unease and dread on entering the house, with some feeling physically sick.
2. Craig y Nos, Powys
Craig y Nos was once a sanitorium for children with TB and the home of an opera star at the turn of the 20th century.
According to television's Most Haunted crew, the salt cellar houses a "particularly nasty guy".
The slab room where opera star Adelina Patti's body was embalmed is also in the cellar.
In one room, famed TV psychic medium Derek Acorah said he felt as though a child had been pushed out of the window of one of the rooms.
And one photo seems to show the outline of what looks like a man in formal evening wear going up the stairs.
3. Plas Teg House, Flintshire
A Jacobean country house, Plas Teg was built by Welsh politician Sir John Trevor in 1610.
There are believed to be more than 15 ghosts walking around the house, which was used as a local court where people were tried and hung.
Sir Trevor’s daughter, Dorothy, is believed to haunt the A541 that runs past Plas Teg and there are reported to have been many car accidents on the approach to the house with visitors who have "seen something" in the road.
A teenager named Elizabeth Trevor-Roper, who died in 1815 at the age of 16, was believed to have been pushed down a well by a man whose love she spurned.
She is also said to have been seen running through the house’s corridor.
4. The Skirrid Inn, Monmouthshire
Believed to be the oldest pub in Wales dating back to the Norman Conquest, the Skirrid Inn was used a as a courtroom for many years.
It is said more than 180 people were hanged from an oak beam over the staircase, which is still there.
It is also believed to have been a meeting place for supporters of the Owain Glyndwr.
Among the ghosts said to be at the Skirrid Inn include the hanging judge who wanders the upper floors and the hangman himself.
But there are also said to be a number of friendly ghosts, including local clergyman Father Henry Vaughn and Fanny Price, who died of consumption when working at the inn.
5. Denbigh Castle, Denbighshire
The castle was originally built as a fortress after the conquest of Wales by Edward I in the 13th century.
There have been many hauntings in the Goblin Tower, including the son of the castle’s builder
He was falsely accused of having an affair with the landowner’s daughter and thrown to his death from the tower.
Another legend states that a dragon used to live in the castle bit was killed by a man with eight fingers on each hand.
6. Roch Castle, Pembrokeshire
Dating back to the 13th century, Roch Castle in Haverfordwest was home of Lucy Walter during the 1630s.
She was the consort of Charles II and mother of the Duke of Monmouth.
It is believed Lucy is haunting the castle and she has been seen floating through locked rooms wearing a white dress.
Noisy running footsteps have also been heard by guests during the night.
7. Candleston Castle, Bridgend
The 14th century manor house is located on the edge of the Merthyr Mawr sand dunes near Bridgend.
Old stones and crosses have been found near the castle where ghosts are said to appear.
The Goblin stone is believed to be haunted by a ghost who encourages people to touch the stone, which traps them by their hands and feet.
The only way to escape is to pray.
8. Powis Castle, Powys
It dates back to 1200 and was once a military stronghold before being transformed into a fine home for wealthy families.
According to hauntedwales.co.uk, the Dukes Room and Ballroom Wing are said to be the most haunted parts of the castle.
A lady in black has been seen sitting in a chair near the fireplace in the Dukes Room and one visitor reported the feeling of a hand brush down their arm.
The piano has been heard to play on its own in the Ballroom Wing, along with the piano stool moving. Knocks on the doors and windows have also been heard when the castle is all locked up.
A lady wearing a mop cap who sits at the bottom of a bed has been witnessed by guests and workmen have reported feeling a hand on the back of their neck while walking down the stairs.
A child has also been seen, described as having long hair and dressed in green.
9. Llancaiach Fawr, Caerphilly
Built on the site of a medieval dwelling in 1550, Llancaiach Fawr is home to many ghosts and has been named as one of the most haunted places in the UK.
There is often a pervading smell in the air, like lavender, violets or roast beef.
Among the ghosts said to haunt the building are the petticoat-wearing housekeeper Mattie who died tragically in one of the rooms, as well as a little boy who tugs at the hair and sleeves of visitors.

10. Margam Castle, Neath Port Talbot
With its Gothic architecture, Margam Castle is an impressive spectacle.
The most prominent ghost in Margam Castle is believed to be Robert Scott, a former gamekeeper at the house.
He is apparently frequently seen ascending the staircase, and throws stones at those who try to contact him.
There have also been reports of Victorian children playing and giggling through the corridors and rooms of the castle and even moving objects.
11. Prince of Wales, Bridgend
The inn dates from around the 15th century and includes spells as a mortuary and even a courthouse that sentenced criminals to death.
Rumours go that one of the pub’s ancient walls can talk – and conversations of drinkers long since dead can still be heard in the watering hole on quiet winter days.
12. Tretower Castle, Powys
The castle has stood for 900 years and the Picards and the Vaughans who lived here were rich influential Welsh families.
Sightings are said to be of a ‘White Lady', believed to be Sir Roger Vaughan's wife. In the main bed chamber, the apparition of a woman has been seen before she walks into the gallery.
Another woman has been witnessed sitting by the windowsill, said to be very calm and peaceful.
But visitors and staff have apparently reported feeling very uneasy in this area.
The ghost of a woman has also been seen in another bedroom, wearing white and having green eyes, and being anxious but not aggressive.
