Some of California's cutest surfers hit the waves to raise money for their orphaned friends in need.
The 16th annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon at was held at Del Mar Dog Beach Sunday afternoon to raise money for pets at Helen Woodward Animal Center.
The dogs, alongside their owners, competed in front of a panel of judges consisting of surf pros and aficionados.
Sporting tuxedos, sunglasses, mohawks and other festive costumes, the competitors - championing for the title of Best in Surf - were judged on the length of their creativity, ride, wave technique, enthusiasm and confidence on the board.

The Helen Woodward Animal Center offers 14 unique program aimed at helping animals
The funds raised from Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon registration and event spornshorhsip will be used towards helping the Helen Woodward Animal Center care for rescued dogs
'It's all really showing that animals help us and we help them, and really using that to create as many programs as we have to bring that beautiful love of animals and people who love animals to the world,' Jessica Gercke with Helen Woodward Animal Center told CBS 8.
'It's just really lovely to see people out here and how happy they are, and I think we've needed a day like this for a long time.'
Micheal Willis, who surfed with his dog, told the TV station he was glad they participated in the event.
