Ask me my age

ASK ME MY AGE
I won’t think you rude
for the years are not
dragging me down
I have toiled in the depths
of the gold-mine of life
and I’m happy to share
what I’ve found
Ask me my age
I’ll show you the lines
each one shows a
laugh or a frown
I won’t worry or fret
they’re hiding my light
for the soul is a ship
that won’t drown
Ask me my age
but don’t offer your salve
that I look so much
younger to you
when you’ve come
quite as far
as the journey I’ve made
you don’t care
if you're battered
and bruised
