Washington Irving

Today marks the the birthday of author Washington Irving who wrote the famous work, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" His work was so influential that the town of Tarrytown New York where the book is based and where Irving himself is buried, actually changed the name of the town from Tarrytown to Sleepy Hollow in 1996. After the landslide vote in favor of the name change the 311 year old bell in the Old Dutch Church was rung for 15 minutes.
