UNLIKELY FRIENDS

UNLIKELY FRIENDS
In a little wood glen met a small baby fox and a little small hen.
It wasn’t quite likely, but both being lost, they became the best friends.
They took off together to find each one’s home.
Oh, the adventures they had as they set out to roam.
They first met a dog. When they asked for directions
He chased them until they found a log for protection!
The second they met was a little quaint snail.
He wasn’t much help, he was too slow on the trail.
“How do you live?”, asked the hen of the fox.
“I’m not really sure, I might live in a box.”
“Where do you fit in?”, said the fox to the hen.”
“It seems to me that I live in a pen.”
The next visitor they met was an ant hauling food.
He wasn’t much help but at least he was good.
He hadn’t seen a box but he knew of this frog
Who knew a lot when his memory was jogged.
And, so, they went about their way this baby fox and small hen.
They were a little afraid but brave they would pretend.
As they met each new person, they would stand straight and tall
And talk in their big voice so they wouldn’t seem small.
Who knew about a pen that might be home to hen?
All shook their heads and said,
“You’ll have to look elsewhere for a bed.”
The day had ended for the small hen and baby fox.
They did not find their pen or box.
So, having found a friend in each other
They snuggled in together under a bush for cover.
As the owl hooted his goodnight song,
The baby fox and small hen were snoozing along.
