This is a post from a friend on Facebook. It's about the short life of our pets, but could apply to family and friends.
It doesn’t matter!
The dogs are scratching up the sofa! It doesn’t matter.
Oh no the dogs are digging up the garden! It doesn’t matter.
The dogs have only gone and chewed the door! It doesn’t matter.
The dogs keep getting me covered in fur! It doesn’t matter.
The dogs have made an indentation on the bed! It doesn’t matter.
What matters?
Pups are not here for long enough, we know that when we bring them into our lives, most of us would be willing to trade a few of our years to give them a few more.
One day you will sit and look at the scratches on the sofa, look out across the garden at the bushes you had to plant to keep it safe, each time you go through the door the chew marks will make you smile, still finding the treasure of fur on your clothes and falling asleep in the empty indentation on your bed.
They leave traces of themselves, little memory prints of the life they had with you, you treasure all the marks, holes and indentations they left behind because in that snapshot of memories they are with you again if only fleeting.
That matters
