“It is not human to be alone because in company we find companionship,” said Tom Hanks in a first look at the new Apple TV+ movie Finch.
The Hollywood actor is set to star alongside rescue dog Seamus, who plays Goodyear, in the post-apocalyptic film, which is out on November 5.
The uplifting and emotional story sees Finch (Tom Hanks) as the ‘last man on earth’ following a solar disaster. The engineer builds a robot to protect and care for the dog he finds while out trying to loot for supplies, as he finds himself dying from the effects of the solar flare.
Tom said in a video released for Apple TV+: “Finch is the last man on earth, but he has the greatest companion in the world. He has a dog, Goodyear.
“Finch is an engineer and he has built a robot to help take care of Goodyear. His name is Jeff.”

But when a huge storm rolls in, Finch, Goodyear and robot Jeff have to pile into an RV and head west to safety.
The Castaway star added: “The bond between Finch and Goodyear is one that is based on deep affection and constant understanding. Who doesn’t love a good dog? Even Jeff loves a good dog.”
Hanks described the film as ‘optimistic, hopeful and just delightful’, as we learn about love, friendship and the meaning of life.
The scruffy terrier who stars as Goodyear was rescued by Redwood Rescue Pals, in California, in 2018.
The dog had been found on a hillside on Highway 36 before he was taken into their care.

Following the release date of the movie, the kennels were finally able to spill the beans on the Hollywood dog, after he was adopted from them in 2018.
Posting to Facebook, Redwood Pals Rescue said: “Seamus was a Redwood Pals Rescue dog in the Spring of 2018. He had failed temperament testing at the shelter for dog reactivity. We liked him and kept working with him.
“One day we were contacted by a film trainer from LA who saw his photo and was interested. Info was exchanged and long story short, Seamus went off to Hollywood!
“He had a variety of adventures along the way but in November of 2018 he had a meeting with Tom Hanks who just loved him.”
Finch was originally announced as ‘BIOS’ in October 2017, with filming taking place from February to May 2019 in New Mexico. The movie was due to be released in October 2020 by Universal Pictures, but following several delays due to Covid, the film was renamed Finch and sold to Apple TV.
The Californian rescue added: “They went on together to make the film now known as "Finch." We were sworn to secrecy until the film's release date was finalized, not knowing that a pandemic was going to postpone that for over a year. But now we can tell the world - our boy is a star!”
Finch is out on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 5.
