If a novel is a seven-course meal, then a quote is more like a miniature piece of candy.

A quote is a tempting, fascinating, yummy quick fix—and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
So I compiled a list with a few of my all-time favorite quotes for those days when you just need a pick-me-up.
“Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” ~ A.A. Milne
“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
“If you are going through hell, keep going.” ~ Winston Churchill
“One’s real life is so often the life that one does not lead.” ~ Oscar Wilde
“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.” ~Rabindranath Tagore
“In the morning a man walks with his whole body; in the evening, only with his legs.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson.
“Master your instrument, master the music, and then forget all that…and just play.” ~Charlie Parker
“Truth is by nature self-evident. As soon as you remove the cobwebs of ignorance that surround it, it shines clear.” ~Mahatma Gandhi
“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.” ~ Kahlil Gibran
“When we were children, we used to think that when we were grown-up we would no longer be vulnerable. But to grow up is to accept vulnerability…To be alive is to be vulnerable.” ~ Madeleine L’Engle
“Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone for others. Unfold your own myth.” ~ Rumi
“If God dwells inside of us like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that’s what He’s getting.” ~ Jack Handey
I’m not exactly sure why we love a good quote so much, but I think that part of it is that they offer little nuggets of insight, laughter and inspiration when we need them most.
I hope that one of these helps you relight your fire again if you feel that it’s been dwindling, because…

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

~Howard Thurman
