Founded in Paris in 1994 Assouline Publishing has quickly made its mark in luxury and fashion publishing. The business was started by husband and wife Prosper and Martine Assouline, who have built a name for themselves producing books that have been described as “beautiful, splashy and highly flattering” by the Washington Post. Assouline titles focus on images rather than text in order to convey the message – a picture is worth a thousand words to this particular publisher.
Assouline Publishing has published more than a thousand titles and has covered many styles, including art, architecture, design, fashion, food, travel, and photography in general. The books are big, beautiful, and finely crafted, making Assouline publications easy on the eye and often expensive.
Not all Assouline publications are high priced, with many being available for under £30, however it’s their limited deluxe editions that have made Assouline so desirable for the hypermodern collector; these specialty volumes begin at hundreds of pounds and take the concept of a coffee table book to an entirely new level.
