A Thousand Hymns Whispered

A Thousand Hymns Whispered
through muscular oaks
black mushroomed monks
flower to the light of dawn
walking past the trunks
of yesterday's brethren
along crystal streams
cloistered snowdrops bloom
in the glare of the glade
speared by pine needles
I step softly over the fallen
a muddy caked fox
twitches its wet nose
I fall into its wide amber gaze
before it scurries into tangled gorse
we wait for the shadows
to fall from the sun
as the stars fill the face
of the silver pool
and we walk wild together
under the deep cathedral dome.
