HISTORICAL FLINTSHIRE

Well, I imagine a simple bridge would have sufficed, but what we have here is a rather wonderful alternative. In 1849, Ambrose Poynter, the renowned London architect, was tasked to build a bridge above the Tremostyn road, to enable Lord Mostyn to make the journey from his nearby hall to Whitford. Poynter built him Drybridge Lodge.
From the road below, the Lodge looks like a rather stately tower, with horseshoe arches and grotesques glowering down at you as you pass beneath. From the roadway above however, the Lodge is just that - a pretty little lodge with mullioned windows and a tunnel within allowing Mostyn to continue his ride to Whitford.
A little bit of wonder.
