Leave your dog’s coat to get too long and the only option is a haircut so drastic that it looks as if you’ve come home with the wrong animal.
And that’s just what happened to this bunch, most of whom have had the doggie equivalent of a short back and sides.
The amazing before and after photos were shared by owners on the social media site Reddit.
Some of the pets look as if they’re ready for Crufts while others are probably wanting to get back to being their scruffy selves.
Maria Danson, who owns The Hound Dog Grooming Spa in Stockport, Cheshire, said groomers will usually only resort to these drastic cuts when the dog’s hair is matted and knotted.
‘Most of these won’t have been in great condition in the first place,’ she said.
‘Sometimes you can’t do anything but clip it off because that’s the kindest thing to do for the dog.’
Not all the cuts are the result of overgrown hair. Some, such as the bichon frise with the fluffy white coat (pictured below), have been deliberately styled.
