9 OF LONDON’S COOLEST DOG FRIENDLY WORKPLACES

If you’ve ever seen a dog on the tube in London, you’ll know all about their transformative effects. No matter how mired in the misery of the underground, even the grumpiest traveller can raise a smile when a canine commuter steps onto the carriage. Workplaces are also catching onto pooches’ mood boosting potential, with many London companies accepting dogs as a permanent fixture in the office. These nine companies are just some of the places where pups can join their owners for the work day, raising morale, reducing stress, and maybe even picking up a few dog biscuits on the way.

  1. DESIGN BRIDGE
Four-legged friends are welcome at branding agency Design Bridge, which spends its days making companies including Guinness, Fortnum & Mason and Tanqueray look great. Resident dog Jarvis – a Whiplington, or Bedlington-Whippet cross – has already found a home in their Clerkenwell office where, as his bio says, he enjoys “bum scratches and lying in the right way”.  He’s the studio’s first resident canine, although their office is now firmly dog-friendly, and offers plenty of sofas for pooches to curl up on during the lunch break. www.designbridge.com

2. MOTHER LONDON
At what is possibly London’s most dog-friendly ad agency, creatives at Mother dream up campaigns for Ikea, KFC and Moneysupermarket, all while surrounded by a diverse canine crew. There’s no saying for sure how many pups head into the office each day, but there’s a good cross-section of breeds – think schnauzers, spaniels, staffies and cockapoos. Visitors are even welcomed by front desk dog Rocco, who’s earned his own spot on the Mother people page. www.motherlondon.com.

3. THE FUTURE LABORATORY
London trend forecaster The Future Laboratory started out two people and a dog – making them one of the few businesses that can legitimately claim a canine as a founding member. They remain firmly dog friendly, and currently have eight resident dogs roaming their Elder Street office, and its lush gardens. www.thefuturelaboratory.com.
4. LTS ARCHITECTS
If you’re an architect with a sneaking suspicion that your dog belongs at the drafting table, you might want to keep an eye out for a vacancy at the pooch-friendly LTS Architects. The practice has worked on everything from a new teaching space at King’s College to apartments in Westminster, and already has resident pup Santos, who apparently has a strong background in landscape architecture. We’re sure there’s room for one more. www.lts-architects.co.uk.

5. NESTLE
This one’s not quite in London, but when you get somewhere this dog-friendly it’s worth travelling for. Around 25 dogs join their owners at work each day at Nestlé’s Gatwick office, which has been adapted especially to suit its resident pooches. Pets are thoroughly assessed beforehand, and will need to pass a probation period to prove their good behaviour. www.nestle.co.uk

6. STUDIO VERVE
Architecture firm Studio Verve’s portfolio is full to the brim with refined design projects, so it’s no surprise that they’ve got great taste in office pets too. Dogs are very much welcome in their workspace, and can expect to cosy up with Tiger – a long-haired Jack Russell described as the “resident stress ball”. www.studioverve.co.uk
Habit Creative
7. HABIT CREATIVE
Over at Islington production company Habit Creative – which counts adidas, L’Oreal and Calvin Klein among its clients – resident dog Rosie rules the roost. She’s featured on their team page, and is even the subject of an ‘office dogs are pawsome’ blog post, which calls for more creative agencies to bring canines into the workplace. habitcreative.co.uk.
8. TOBY MARSH CREATIVE
In between creating logos and brand campaigns for the likes of Jamie Oliver, Yogamatters and, appropriately, The Pet Concierge, Toby Marsh Creative finds some time to hang out with office pup Sebastian. This mini schnauzer has a lot on his plate, dealing with invoices, employee relations and office admin, so it’s about time another office dog joined to lend him a paw. www.tobymarshcreative.com

9. RSA FILMS
At the Soho home of Ridley Scott’s production company, dogs run wild. Need proof? Check out our tour of their offices. The office has been pet-friendly since day one, thanks to its gang of dog-lovers, and there’s a resident gang of pooches that hang out under (and occasionally on) the desk. RSA Films says its canine companions bring “calm and joy in some very stressful situations”. They even have their own instagram account so you can keep up with all the canine capers. www.rsafilms.com
