Pitbull Crosses Paths With An Orphaned Squirrel And Adopts Him Immediately

Like we mentioned in several previous stories, Pitbulls, as opposed to their reputation, can be just as compassionate as any other breed. Sadly, decades of mistreatment and abuse by heartless owners, led Pits to earn the bad reputation of being aggressive and dangerous. The motherly instincts of Everly, a sweet rescue Pitbull, proves that this couldn’t be further from being the truth.
One day Everly’s owner, Morgan Joy Groves, took her on her daily walk around the neighborhood when they came across a baby squirrel. Groves immediately looked around her for the tiny squirrel’s mother, but she was nowhere to be found. The little critter, who seemed especially fascinated by the dog, followed the two back to their home from a safe distance.
Everly was evidently tired from the long walk and lied to sleep on the front porch. The cheeky squirrel slowly snuck closer to the sleeping doggo, climbed on top of her, and joined her for a nap. This marked the beginning of one of the most beautiful cross-species friendships we’ve ever come across.
From that moment forward, the pooch and squirrel became inseparable and did everything together, and their favorite activity? Sleeping together of course!
The squirrel awoke Everly’s motherly instincts. She sniffed, groomed and cared for the baby squirrel as if he was her own puppy. Groves, on the other hand, made sure to document the unusual friendship and keep the two’s devoted Instagram and Reddit fans updated on their latest adventure.
After a few days, some Reddit users raised their concerns for the squirrel’s wellbeing. They mentioned that as adorable as they may seem, squirrels are still wild animals who could potentially carry diseases like rabies and that raising them properly is harder than it seems.
Once she learned what it takes to raise a baby squirrel, Groves made the heartbreaking decision of separating the two, to assure the squirrel’s health: “Our little squirrel friend was brought to a wildlife center where it will be nourished and taken care of,” The woman wrote on Instagram. “There are two other squirrels his age that he will grow up with, and when ready, be released back into the forest together as a family!”
Their friendship may have only lasted a few days, but for the tiny helpless squirrel, it was quite possibly the difference between life and death.

Feel free to share this story to show people how loving caring and compassionate Pitbulls can be.
